Help

Short answers to the things that are not obvious. If what you need is not here, write to us — a person reads every message.

Getting it on your phone

iPhone and iPad

Open psalms48.com in Safari, tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, then choose "Add to Home Screen". It has to be Safari — other browsers on iPhone cannot install it. Open it from the home screen icon afterwards, not from Safari.

Android

Open psalms48.com in Chrome and tap "Install" when it offers, or use the menu and choose "Add to Home screen" or "Install app".

Computer

In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar. You can also simply use it in a browser tab; everything works either way.

Sound

Nothing plays

Check your phone is not on silent, and that the volume is up — the app caps its own volume for safety, so it will never be loud. If the play button is greyed out, the sounds are still loading; give it a moment. If a message says sound could not start, close the app and open it again.

Choosing what plays

The Sounds tab lists verses, prayers, hymns and songs, grouped by kind. Tick whatever you want layered together, then press Begin Peace on the Player tab. The two faders set how loud the noise is against the words.

Playing with the screen off

Install the app to your home screen and open it from there. Played from a browser tab, some phones stop the sound when the screen locks. If your phone does that, the app will tell you on the player screen.

The sleep timer

How it ends

The sound fades out over the last three minutes rather than stopping suddenly. You can also switch on a soft chime at the end, which is off by default.

It kept playing past the time I set

It should not. The timer is set on the audio clock, so it holds even with the screen off. If this happens, tell us what phone you have — that is a bug and we want it.

Routines and reminders

What a routine does

A routine remembers a time, the days it repeats on, and which sleep timer to use. If the app is already open at that time, it starts the sounds on its own.

A reminder cannot start the sounds

This is the one thing worth knowing. Phones do not allow an app to start playing sound on its own while it is closed — no app can, ours included. A reminder buzzes at the time you set, and one tap opens the app and starts your last mix. If you want it to begin without you, leave the app open on the nightstand.

Reminders do nothing on my iPhone

Apple only delivers them to apps added to the home screen. Add Psalm 4:8 to your home screen, open it from there, and turn reminders on again from inside that copy. Turning them on in a Safari tab will appear to work and will never buzz.

I never saw the permission box

If you declined notifications once, the phone will not ask again. Allow them for Psalm 4:8 in your phone settings, then turn reminders on in the app.

Offline

What works without a connection

Everything except the prayer companion. The app opens, the noise plays, your routines run and your journal is there. A recording has to be played once while you have a connection before it is kept for offline use.

The prayer companion while offline

Your prayer is saved to your journal instead of being sent. Nothing you wrote is lost.

Language and Bible version

Switching language

Sounds tab, under Language. The whole app changes, and the verses change to a translation in that language.

Choosing a translation

Sounds tab, under Bible version. ESV, NIV, NLT and KJV in English; Reina-Valera 1960 and Nueva Versión Internacional in Spanish. Your choice is remembered and applies everywhere.

The full version

Where the code goes

Sounds tab, under Full version. Type the code from your purchase and press Unlock. It works on up to ten devices, so your phone, your partner’s and a tablet are all fine.

I lost my code

Write to us from the email address you bought with and we will send it again.

It stopped working

If your year has ended, or the purchase was refunded, the code stops unlocking. Otherwise write to us.

Your information

What we keep

Your journal and settings stay on your device and never reach us. There is no account and no password. If you use the prayer companion, the words you typed are sent to be answered and are not stored or attached to you.

Moving to a new phone

Your journal does not travel with you — it lives on the device. Download it first from the Journal tab if you want to keep it. Your purchase code works on the new phone straight away.

Still stuck

Write to support@ahlchemy.org, or use Send feedback in the app. Tell us what phone you have and what happened — it saves a round of questions.
